The House Rules · last updated August 27, 2026
The House Rules is a game-night scorekeeper and rules library. It is built to hold as little about you as possible, and here is exactly what it does hold.
Everything — your game collection, ratings, saved player names, and game history — lives in your own browser's local storage. It never leaves your device, and we cannot see it. Live score syncing sends the current scorecard (player names and scores, under the table code you chose) to our database so other phones at your table can see it; that is all it contains.
We receive your name, email address, and profile photo from Google, and we store your app data (collection, ratings, saved people, game history, and any table photos you attach to results) under your account so it follows you across devices. Sign-in is handled by Google; we never see or store a password.
If you create or join a household, your app data (collection, ratings, saved people, game history, and table photos attached to results) becomes one shared book visible to and editable by every member of that household. Leaving the household keeps a personal copy of the book at the moment you leave. Household invite codes should be shared only with people you want in your household.
Photos you attach to a saved result are stored with your account data and are visible only to you. Share cards you generate are created on your device — sharing them is entirely your choice.
No advertising trackers, no analytics profiles, no selling or sharing of your data with anyone. The app shows no third-party ads.
Some game pages link to Amazon. As an Amazon Associate, The House Rules earns from qualifying purchases. These are plain links — Amazon's own privacy policy applies once you are on their site, and nothing about your app data is sent to Amazon.
If you ask the assistant for a pick or scan a shelf photo, your question or photo is processed by Anthropic's Claude API to produce the answer, then discarded. These features require sign-in.
Hosting by Netlify; database, sign-in, and storage by Google Firebase. Both process data on our behalf under their own security practices.
Open your account (top-right) and choose Delete my account. This erases your account data from our servers and removes your sign-in. Local, signed-out data can be cleared by clearing this site's data in your browser settings.
The app is made for families to use together and collects no more from any player than the names and scores a household types onto its own scorecards.
